This can depend on the type of allergies that you’re experiencing. Best way to reintroduce sugar (or sugar substitutes) after completing the Plan2017-10-17T14:36:30-07:00

You’ll have to see how your body does with natural sugars such as honey, molasses, etc. After completing the plan, people are much more aware of noticing negative changes in their overall health when adding in sugars – we get hundreds of e-mails sharing this experience.

The problem with sugar substitutes is that while refined sugar (sucrose) may be more toxic, in many ways, sugar is sugar when it comes to how the body responds (with the production of insulin, inflammation, hormonal responses, etc). Excess insulin promotes inflammation and blood sugar imbalances. All common sugar substitutes, including Stevia, in a sense, are “good” enough to fool the body into reacting to the “presence” of sugar, which can again initiate the production of insulin and other changes.

Also, people tend to eat more sugar when they are defining it as “natural”, thinking that there is no negative effect or downside. Sparingly is probably the best way to use additional sugars of any kind, if at all, when adding them back into your diet. Blackstrap molasses, agave nectar, and honey do have beneficial properties, but overdoing it can have negative results. You will need to see how your body does – and having completed the plan, you’ll probably be more aware of your body’s responses. The only sugar that I would ever recommend would be raw, UNHEATED honey, and then only if it works for your body.

Synthetic sugars like aspartame, sucralose, and others have been found to produce very negative effects on the body’s nervous, immune, hormonal, and enzyme systems. Acesulfame-K, otherwise known as acesulfame-K, or Ace-K, has never been shown to be safe for human consumption. It is suspected of being carcinogenic. It’s probably best to avoid synthetic/artificial sugars.

What if I have to take antibiotics after The Candida Plan?2017-07-21T12:28:07-07:00

If a dose of antibiotics is taken after completing The McCombs Plan, the recommendation is to take the following while taking the antibiotics and continue for 3 weeks after:
Candida Force: 5 capsules 2x/day
Flora Prime: 5 capsules 2x/day

Eat according to the beginning 8 week food plan and sweat at least 4-5 times per week, while taking the antibiotics and for three weeks after.

If antibiotics are taken during the Plan after week 8, add 5 Candida Force 2x/day for 3 weeks and eat according to week 8.

You can use the Maintenance Plan indefinitely. Some people find that now they feel better they want to release even more unwanted weight. Additional unwanted weight generally occurs when patients tend to be quite toxic and the detoxification process progresses more slowly.

As health continues to be restored (which is the foundational purpose of the Plan), the body generally adjusts and the excess weight is released down the road. It can be challenging to keep from fretting about weight, and you are encouraged to put your focus on rebuilding your health as your primary goal.

A question you may want to ask yourself is, “Are the foods I am eating giving me the experience of healthy living I want?” If not, I would recommend changing your approach to how you choose what to eat.

Generally, I find that foods that need sauces are of a lower quality and devoid of nutrients. Organic whole foods are the best choice. Eat foods that work best for your body in promoting health.

Normal bowel movements should occur 3-4 times per day. If yours are slower, meaning less than 2 times per day, then you are placing additional stress on your body. I recommend Trace Mineral Research Trace Minerals Concentrace. It comes in liquid and tablet forms. In the liquid form, you’ll need to take 40-80 drops, 2-3 times a day. ADJUST up or down depending on results. With tablets, the directions on the bottle state to take 2-6 tablets a day. Those who focus first and foremost on getting healthy tend to lose all the weight that they want – and more. Men generally lose more weight than women due to having a faster metabolism. Exercise is always an important part of any weight-loss approach and helps to maintain and restore health in the body. During the more than 18 years the plan has been available, people who focus primarily on weight loss, lose the least amount of weight. Focus on your health!

Follow the Yes/No Foods list from Week 1 through Week 8. On the 9th week you may begin reintroducing specific foods in a specific order to see how they work for your body. Here is an overview of when you may try adding back each food:

Antibiotics taken during the first 6 weeks of the plan do not affect the effectiveness of the plan.
If you must take antibiotics during Weeks 7-16, follow the following protocol while taking the antibiotics and for three weeks after to ensure the effectiveness of the plan:

  • Eat according to the first 8 weeks Yes/No Foods list
  • Take Candida Force – 5 capsules 3x/day
  • Take Detox Essentials – 4 capsules 2x/day
  • Take Flora Prine – 5 capsules 2x/day
  • Sweat 6x/week

If your doctor wants to give you antibiotics, first have them confirm through simple testing that the problem is due to a bacteria and NOT a virus. Next, according to a mandate from the U.S. Center for Disease Control, require that he/she do susceptibility testing to determine if the antibiotic they are prescribing will be effective against the bacteria discovered in the first test. If neither of these steps are followed, you shouldn’t be prescribed an antibiotic.

 Sweating can be done via saunas, hot baths, hot tubs, steam rooms, and even Bikram Yoga. Exercise sweating doesn’t count. Once you start sweating from your forehead, sweat for at least 10-15 minutes. If you feel faint, place a cool washcloth on the back of your neck and drink water. Drinking water while sweating can be beneficial.

Protein, especially red meat, helps to balance blood sugar more effectively. Eating more protein and starting the day with protein is one approach. Taking a good pharmaceutical amino acid supplement like Super Sports could also help. Eating a lot of carbs, like fruits and vegetables, can create blood sugar imbalances that may only show up under stressful situations. Protein powders tend to cause bloating, so I don’t recommend these. Amino acid supplements are better choices.

Dr. Jeff has been drinking 3-4 liters a day for over 18 years and has never had a problem. We’ve had heavier people drinking 4-6 quarts a day without ever having heard of a problem. For most people, there is a period of adapting and working their way up to whatever amount is beneficial for them. Do your best and increase gradually over time.

I don’t recommend fasting during The Candida Plan as the body requires a lot of energy to run its detoxification pathways. You generally need more food, not less, during The Candida Plan to assist this process.

We haven’t seen a problem with the amounts of red clover in the Detox Essentials. Red clover, by itself and in large quantities, may affect some people, sometimes, but that isn’t an affect that we’ve seen with the plan in the Detox Essentials formulation. Overall, you have to be comfortable with any approach that you use during your pregnancy. Working with a healthcare provider is always recommended.

Many people believe that sweating is sweating. During the almost two decades of developing and refining the plan, I can tell you that not all forms of sweating are the same, especially where the diet is concerned.

In 18 years, exercise sweating has never worked effectively for anyone doing the plan, including professional, competitive athletes who exercise at peak levels.

Exercise sweating doesn’t create enough deep core heating of the body. Also, during exercise, the muscular contraction causes a back-flushing of toxins, so you don’t get an efficient detoxification.

The plan states that you should sweat 6 times per week, through either a sauna, hot bath, steam room, or hot tub. Bikram Yoga has also been found to work due to the heat of the room during this practice.

Those who have tried to accomplish this sweating through exercise, wind up with the symptoms that are typical of a ‘die-off’ reaction. This generally can look like a cold or flu, with symptoms of lung and sinus congestion, sore throat, fatigue, etc. A particular symptom or condition that you are dealing with, that is a result of the over toxic state of the body, may become worse.

An example of this may be chronic headaches that were getting better, start getting worse again. Exercise is a process that primarily involves the Sympathetic Nervous System (SNS) and there are sweat glands that are under the control of the SNS. Sitting and resting is a process that primarily involves the Parasympathetic Nervous System (PNS) and there are sweat glands that are under the control of the PNS.

The bottom line is that sweating through exercise will not accomplish the same result as sweating through a hot bath or sauna.
