What should I do if I start to experience allergies?2016-04-19T19:59:04-07:00

This can depend on the type of allergies that you’re experiencing. For possible food allergies, take out any new foods from your diet for 3 days and then add them back one at a time every 3 days to see if they are causing a reaction. If you suspect a certain food, remove that from your diet and see how your body responds.

For airborne allergies, look into purchasing a shower filter and a good air filtration system for your home. This can depend on the type of allergies that you’re experiencing. Best way to reintroduce sugar (or sugar substitutes) after completing the Plan2017-10-17T14:36:30-07:00

You’ll have to see how your body does with natural sugars such as honey, molasses, etc. After completing the plan, people are much more aware of noticing negative changes in their overall health when adding in sugars – we get hundreds of e-mails sharing this experience.

The problem with sugar substitutes is that while refined sugar (sucrose) may be more toxic, in many ways, sugar is sugar when it comes to how the body responds (with the production of insulin, inflammation, hormonal responses, etc). Excess insulin promotes inflammation and blood sugar imbalances. All common sugar substitutes, including Stevia, in a sense, are “good” enough to fool the body into reacting to the “presence” of sugar, which can again initiate the production of insulin and other changes.

Also, people tend to eat more sugar when they are defining it as “natural”, thinking that there is no negative effect or downside. Sparingly is probably the best way to use additional sugars of any kind, if at all, when adding them back into your diet. Blackstrap molasses, agave nectar, and honey do have beneficial properties, but overdoing it can have negative results. You will need to see how your body does – and having completed the plan, you’ll probably be more aware of your body’s responses. The only sugar that I would ever recommend would be raw, UNHEATED honey, and then only if it works for your body.

Synthetic sugars like aspartame, sucralose, and others have been found to produce very negative effects on the body’s nervous, immune, hormonal, and enzyme systems. Acesulfame-K, otherwise known as acesulfame-K, or Ace-K, has never been shown to be safe for human consumption. It is suspected of being carcinogenic. It’s probably best to avoid synthetic/artificial sugars.

What if I have to take antibiotics after The Candida Plan?2017-07-21T12:28:07-07:00

If a dose of antibiotics is taken after completing The McCombs Plan, the recommendation is to take the following while taking the antibiotics and continue for 3 weeks after:
Candida Force: 5 capsules 2x/day
Flora Prime: 5 capsules 2x/day
Detox Essentials: 4 capsules 2x/day

Eat according to the beginning 8 week food plan and sweat at least 4-5 times per week, while taking the antibiotics and for three weeks after.

If antibiotics are taken during the Plan after week 8, add 5 Candida Force 2x/day for 3 weeks and eat according to week 8.

Cleanses after the Plan2016-04-20T09:10:15-07:00

A parasite cleanse is recommended after The Candida Plan has been completed. We recommend taking 2 products (Agrisept-L and Morinda Supreme) for 1 month to help address parasites and continue balancing the flora of the intestinal tract. Recommended dosage is 15 drops of Agrisept twice a day in water or juice, and 2 scoops of Morinda Supreme twice a day for 1 month. Babies can take a black/green walnut extract or a homeopathic formula.

How to release more weight after the Plan2017-07-18T07:58:53-07:00

You can use the Maintenance Plan indefinitely. Some people find that now they feel better they want to release even more unwanted weight. Additional unwanted weight generally occurs when patients tend to be quite toxic and the detoxification process progresses more slowly.

As health continues to be restored (which is the foundational purpose of the Plan), the body generally adjusts and the excess weight is released down the road. It can be challenging to keep from fretting about weight, and you are encouraged to put your focus on rebuilding your health as your primary goal.

Make exercise an important part of any weight loss protocol.

How soon can I do The Candida Plan again?2017-07-21T12:41:17-07:00

To maintain optimum health and prevention, it is recommended that you repeat the plan once a year. You can do the plan more often than that if you find a need for doing so. We also have a daily maintenance schedule for after the plan which is:

Candida Force – 5 once a day, at least 20 minutes away from food and Flora Prime.
Detox Essentials – 2 once a day, at anytime.
Flora Prime – 5 once a day, 20 to 30 minutes before meals.

Ways fungal Candida may re-ocurr2016-04-19T20:00:10-07:00

Since 1993 we’ve had great success with The Candida Plan in correcting the imbalances of fungal candida.

There are situations that can create a re-occurrence of fungal Candida. These include:

  • Use of antibiotics
  • Eating antibiotic-laden foods (indirect use of antibiotics)
  • Chemotherapy
  • Long-term use of steroids and hormone replacement medicines
  • Diabetes
  • Surgeries
  • Immunosuppression
  • Malnutrition

Your diet after The Candida Plan2016-04-19T20:00:21-07:00

Diet needs to be considered in terms of foods that support health and foods that don’t support health. If you look at your approach to eating as being restricted or not restricted, then I would recommend updating that approach.

It is a fact that there are many commonly eaten foods that do nothing to contribute to greater health (at best) or amplify poor health. A question you may want to ask yourself is, “Are the foods I am eating giving me the experience of healthy living I want?” If not, I would recommend changing your approach to how you choose what to eat.

Generally, I find that foods that need sauces are of a lower quality and devoid of nutrients. Organic whole foods are the best choice. Eat foods that work best for your body in promoting health.

What can I do should constipation return?2017-09-23T13:52:41-07:00

Normal bowel movements should occur 3-4 times per day. If yours are slower, meaning less than 2 times per day, then you are placing additional stress on your body. I recommend Trace Mineral Research Trace Minerals Concentrace. It comes in liquid and tablet forms. In the liquid form, you’ll need to take 40-80 drops, 2-3 times a day. ADJUST up or down depending on results. With tablets, the directions on the bottle state to take 2-6 tablets a day. You may have to take more than what is recommended on the label and ADJUST up or down depending on results. Your body will supply the feedback on what works and what doesn’t. We carry both tablets and liquids on our site and you can usually find it at Whole Foods, and other health food stores. Remember to ADJUST it up or down depending on results. Some people may also choose to use herbal colon cleansers, psyllium, magnesium, colonics, enemas, etc.

Grocery shopping tips after you’ve finished The Candida Plan2017-07-18T07:58:53-07:00

There is an approach to shopping that encourages buying foods in a grocery store by “shopping around the edges.” This is where you’ll tend to find most fresh and unprocessed foods. The middle of the store usually contains the processed foods that the body doesn’t need and has difficulty with.Click here for our recommended Shopping List for people doing the Plan. It will assist you in remembering all the choices you have available when it comes to food.

The Candida Maintenance Plan2017-09-23T13:53:48-07:00

The Maintenance Plan is ongoing and is to be followed right after completing the 16-week Plan.

Candida Force: 5 capsules once a day, at least 20 minutes away from food and Flora Prime. One bottle will last you two months on the Maintenance Plan.
Detox Essentials: 2 capsules per day, anytime during the day. One bottle will last you two months on this Plan.
Flora Prime: 5 capsules a day, 20-30 minutes before meals. One bottle will last you twenty days on this Plan.

After starting with probiotics (Vital Flora) I feel bloated and gassy. Why?2016-04-19T20:01:01-07:00

Probiotics function through the process of fermentation. The fermentation may be initially creating too much gas as the probiotic strains work to establish themselves within the 100 trillion bacterial cells that make up the intestinal flora. You can reduce the dosage for a few days and then try resuming the normal dosage.

Will the sweating affect my blood pressure?2016-04-19T20:01:09-07:00

Overall, we consistently see high blood pressure lowered to normal ranges when people do the plan. Several studies have been done which support the same conclusion and are posted on our online Candida Library. Some people have reported that when beginning the sweating in a hot bath, they felt as though their blood pressure initially increased a little and then lowered as they accustomed themselves to sweating in the hot bath. Studies show the same result. A good practice is to make sure that you keep yourself well hydrated and drink water while sweating.

I finished week 8 and have leftover Candida Force. Why?2016-04-19T20:01:18-07:00

When you finish Week 8 of the Candida Plan, you should have 160 capsules of Candida Force left over, about half of one bottle. This happens because we can offer you a better price on Candida Force using the 250 gel capsule bottles, instead of bottling Candida Force in smaller more expensive bottles.

Here’s how to make the most of your leftover Candida Force:
• Many people continue taking the Maintenance Dosage of Candida Force, which is 5 capsules one time per day, until they finish the last bottle.
• It’s fine to continue taking the full dosage of 5 capsules 3x/day if you wish to. Remember to continue doing the sweating 6 days per week, whether you continue taking Candida Force, or not.
• Save it for later. Some people save this Candida Force to take after the plan at a Maintenance Dosage. Others have had good results with applying Candida Force topically (diluted in oil) to skin conditions, under the direction of their health care provider.

Why aren’t I losing weight?2016-04-19T20:01:31-07:00

The Candida Plan is not designed as a weight loss plan – though many, many patients (perhaps the majority) lose weight as a result of detoxifying their bodies and restoring healthy function to the cells, tissues, organs, and systems of the body.

During a detoxification and rebuilding process within the body, your body will require sufficient amounts of calories to facilitate the process. DON’T under eat as this can slow metabolism down and cause less weight loss, as well as under-fueling the body during the detoxification process. Those who focus first and foremost on getting healthy tend to lose all the weight that they want – and more. Men generally lose more weight than women due to having a faster metabolism. Exercise is always an important part of any weight-loss approach and helps to maintain and restore health in the body. During the more than 18 years the plan has been available, people who focus primarily on weight loss, lose the least amount of weight. Focus on your health!

What’s the schedule to reintroduce other foods to my diet?2017-10-19T11:34:05-07:00

Follow the Yes/No Foods list from Week 1 through Week 8. On the 9th week you may begin reintroducing specific foods in a specific order to see how they work for your body. Here is an overview of when you may try adding back each food:

Week 1-8
Follow Yes & No foods list
Week 9
You may add back in: dried fruit, juices, soy sauce, vinegar, legumes, tofu, nuts, and popcorn
Week 11
You may add back in: Grains
Week 13
You may add back in: Pasta, bread, chips, crackers, etc.
Week 15
You may add back in: Sugars (This includes any type of alcohol.)
Week 17
You may add back in: Dairy and dairy substitutes

Tips for success:
It may be necessary to delay adding any foods that your body is sensitive to for a few additional weeks. Listen to your body!

What if I need to take antibiotics while on The Candida Plan?2017-09-14T13:52:11-07:00

Antibiotics taken during the first 6 weeks of the plan do not affect the effectiveness of the plan.
If you must take antibiotics during Weeks 7-16, follow the following protocol while taking the antibiotics and for three weeks after to ensure the effectiveness of the plan:

  • Eat according to the first 8 weeks Yes/No Foods list
  • Take Candida Force – 5 capsules 3x/day
  • Take Detox Essentials – 4 capsules 2x/day
  • Take Flora Prine – 5 capsules 2x/day
  • Sweat 6x/week

If your doctor wants to give you antibiotics, first have them confirm through simple testing that the problem is due to a bacteria and NOT a virus. Next, according to a mandate from the U.S. Center for Disease Control, require that he/she do susceptibility testing to determine if the antibiotic they are prescribing will be effective against the bacteria discovered in the first test. If neither of these steps are followed, you shouldn’t be prescribed an antibiotic.

What should I do if I am experiencing allergies?2017-10-11T17:14:56-07:00

This can depend on the type of allergies that you’re experiencing. For possible food allergies, take out any new foods from your diet for 3 days and then add them back one at a time every 3 days to see if they are causing a reaction. If you suspect a certain food, remove that from your diet and see how your body responds.

What is the best way to do the sweating?2017-07-23T16:13:47-07:00

Sweating can be done via saunas, hot baths, hot tubs, steam rooms, and even Bikram Yoga. Exercise sweating doesn’t count. Once you start sweating from your forehead, sweat for at least 10-15 minutes. If you feel faint, place a cool washcloth on the back of your neck and drink water. Drinking water while sweating can be beneficial.

What can I do if I feel faint in the bath?2016-04-19T20:02:13-07:00

Put a cold rag across the back of your neck. Drink cool water. Don’t overdo it. Gradually work your way up to sweating.

What do you recommend for in lieu of sugar based breath fresheners?2017-07-31T19:45:50-07:00

I’m an avid runner but since being on the Plan I fatigue a little faster. What can I do?2017-07-21T13:06:38-07:00

Protein, especially red meat, helps to balance blood sugar more effectively. Eating more protein and starting the day with protein is one approach. Taking a good pharmaceutical amino acid supplement like Super Sports could also help. Eating a lot of carbs, like fruits and vegetables, can create blood sugar imbalances that may only show up under stressful situations. Protein powders tend to cause bloating, so I don’t recommend these. Amino acid supplements are better choices.

My menstrual flow has become heavier since starting The Candida Plan. Why?2016-04-19T20:02:52-07:00

Your menstrual flow may have some changes because the body is flushing out toxins. In some cases, old dead tissue that is bound to the uterine wall is sloughed off. Women may be surprised when this happens, but it is just a natural part of the body’s detoxification process.

What’s the best way re-introduce foods on Week 9?2016-04-19T20:03:33-07:00

Eat a small amount of the food on the week you are supposed to add it. Wait for 3 days to see if you have any reaction. This is most effective when done by adding one food at a time. This way you can be clear if it is creating a reaction or not. A common sign of food allergies will be an increase in your body’s production of clear mucous. Chemicals can also create the same type of response.

Is a gallon of drinking water a day too much or even dangerous?2016-04-20T08:37:25-07:00

Dr. Jeff has been drinking 3-4 liters a day for over 18 years and has never had a problem. We’ve had heavier people drinking 4-6 quarts a day without ever having heard of a problem. For most people, there is a period of adapting and working their way up to whatever amount is beneficial for them. Do your best and increase gradually over time.

Is it okay to fast while on The Candida Plan?2016-04-20T08:37:31-07:00

I don’t recommend fasting during The Candida Plan as the body requires a lot of energy to run its detoxification pathways. You generally need more food, not less, during The Candida Plan to assist this process.

Is red clover (on of the ingredients in Detox Essentials) contraindicated during pregnancy?2016-04-20T08:37:44-07:00

We haven’t seen a problem with the amounts of red clover in the Detox Essentials. Red clover, by itself and in large quantities, may affect some people, sometimes, but that isn’t an affect that we’ve seen with the plan in the Detox Essentials formulation. Overall, you have to be comfortable with any approach that you use during your pregnancy. Working with a healthcare provider is always recommended.

I’m sweating by exercising. Is that as good as using a sauna or a hot bath?2016-04-20T08:38:00-07:00

Many people believe that sweating is sweating. During the almost two decades of developing and refining the plan, I can tell you that not all forms of sweating are the same, especially where the diet is concerned.

In 18 years, exercise sweating has never worked effectively for anyone doing the plan, including professional, competitive athletes who exercise at peak levels.

Exercise sweating doesn’t create enough deep core heating of the body. Also, during exercise, the muscular contraction causes a back-flushing of toxins, so you don’t get an efficient detoxification.

The plan states that you should sweat 6 times per week, through either a sauna, hot bath, steam room, or hot tub. Bikram Yoga has also been found to work due to the heat of the room during this practice.

Those who have tried to accomplish this sweating through exercise, wind up with the symptoms that are typical of a ‘die-off’ reaction. This generally can look like a cold or flu, with symptoms of lung and sinus congestion, sore throat, fatigue, etc. A particular symptom or condition that you are dealing with, that is a result of the over toxic state of the body, may become worse.

An example of this may be chronic headaches that were getting better, start getting worse again. Exercise is a process that primarily involves the Sympathetic Nervous System (SNS) and there are sweat glands that are under the control of the SNS. Sitting and resting is a process that primarily involves the Parasympathetic Nervous System (PNS) and there are sweat glands that are under the control of the PNS.

The bottom line is that sweating through exercise will not accomplish the same result as sweating through a hot bath or sauna.

On Week 7: What schedule do you suggest for taking all three supplements?2017-07-31T19:45:50-07:00

Congratulations on your progress on the Candida Plan.

On Weeks 7 and 8 you will be taking all three of the supplements: Detox Essentials (taken on weeks 1-16), Candida Force (taken on weeks 1-8), and Flora Prime (taken on weeks 7-16).

Here is a suggested schedule of how to take the supplements on Weeks 7 and 8:

Starting at the beginning of Week 9, you will discontinue taking the Candida Force and continue with the Detox Essentials and Flora Prime only.

I’m pregnant and worried about toxins floating around in my body while doing The Candida Plan.2016-04-20T08:38:20-07:00

The toxins won’t be circulating around and effecting the body. The baby has a protective filtration membrane called the placenta that can filter these out, if they exist within the blood. Most of the time, these are eliminated as water-soluble toxins through pathways that the body has established just for this.

I’m pregnant and have lost a few pounds (about 2-3) while on The Candida Plan.2016-04-20T08:38:31-07:00

Pregnant women have had great success with the plan, and a couple of pounds of weight loss is not uncommon or unhealthy. Losing necessary body weight/fat does not happen on the plan. Following the plan as written is important, which means doing the sweating.

Losing excess water, which weighs quite a bit, can be beneficial. The body holds onto water to buffer toxins. That water becomes unnecessary excess weight that the body has to carry around with it. As you detoxify the body and eliminate toxins, the body will release the excess water. This helps to improve the health and function of all the cells, tissues, and organs.

I’m experiencing some lethargy, headaches. Is this part of the Plan’s effect?2017-07-21T13:12:37-07:00

This is sometimes also called ‘die-off’ in reference to any detoxification process that pushes out toxins. If your body is already toxic, the body gets overloaded and you may experience symptoms such as lethargy, headaches, etc. People detoxify at different rates, so symptoms, if any, vary greatly.

Two essential elements limit or eradicate this:

Water intake
Recommended: 1 quart of purified water per 50 lbs. of body weight per day (e.g., 3 quarts of water per day if you weigh 150 lbs).

Sweating
This is one of the four essential elements of the plan. Avoiding it will significantly undermine your experience and increase your likelihood of experiencing unnecessary, uncomfortable die-off symptoms.

Additional Options During the Plan
To support the liver (a major detoxifying organ), you can take milk thistle, artichoke, turmeric, Vitamin E, and Vitamin C. Specifically for die-off symptoms, you can also increase your intake of Detox Essentials to 4 capsules, 3 or 4 times a day.

I’m experiencing Rosacea during/after the sweating. Any suggestions?2016-04-20T08:38:53-07:00

If you are finding that the sweating makes it worse, place a wet cool cloth over the face while sweating. This can help.

I’m experiencing headaches. Is that normal?2017-07-21T13:19:28-07:00

Headaches aren’t a normal part of doing the plan, and may represent your body’s process of balancing itself out initially. This depends on the type of toxins being eliminated, your overall state of health, etc. Check and see if you are completing all the essential aspects of the plan. Are you:

Taking all the Supplements as directed?

Drinking plenty of Water – at least one quart of water per every 50 pounds that you weigh each day?

Sweating 6 times a week?

Having two or more Bowel Movements daily? If less, read the FAQ guidelines on supporting regularity.

Eating only the Foods on the ‘YES’ list?

During detoxification, you may temporarily experience how your body responds to releasing toxic compounds that have been stored in the tissues. While it’s not desirable to have those experiences, it can be looked upon as a normal process and a good sign.

Dr. McCombs’ Candida Plan helps to reverse the problematic, pathogenic fungal form of candida back to its normal yeast form, boost the appropriate immune system response, detoxify the body, and help to restore normal tissue flora. This process varies in each person as to the time required. Give your body the time necessary to accomplish the healing of cells, tissues, organs, and systems.

It’s also possible that you may have other health issues that are having an effect here.

Is a Colon Cleanse OK while on The Candida Plan?2017-07-21T13:23:32-07:00

That should be fine. Normal bowel movements are 3-4 times a day. I recommend ConcenTrace Trace Minerals by Trace Mineral Research Labs to increase bowel movements. It comes in liquid and tablet forms:

Trace Mineral Drops
In the liquid form, you’ll need to take 40-80 drops diluted in water, 2-3 times a day. ADJUST up or down depending on results.

With Trace Mineral Tablets, the directions on the bottle state to take 2-6 tablets a day. You may have to take more than what is recommended on the label and ADJUST up or down depending on results.

Your body will supply the feedback on what works and what doesn’t. Remember to ADJUST the dosage up or down depending on results.

We carry both tablets and liquid minerals on our site and you can usually find it at Whole Foods, and other health food stores. Other possible choices are herbal colon cleansers, psyllium husks, magnesium, colonics, enemas, etc.

Is frozen fruit OK to eat while on The Candida Plan?2016-04-20T08:39:18-07:00

Make sure it has no sugar added. Mangos, strawberries, raspberries are generally okay. Blueberries are generally washed in sugar water. Homemade frozen fruit is best. Unripened fruit can have higher enzyme levels and helps to avoid blood sugar imbalances.

I haven’t yet experienced the shift in energy and/or my Candida that I anticipated. What can I do?2017-07-25T10:15:30-07:00

Make sure that you are supporting yourself by completing all the essential aspects of the plan. Are you:

  • Taking all the supplements as directed?
  • Drinking plenty of water – at least one quart of water per every 50 pounds that you weigh each day?
  • Sweating 6 times a week?
  • Having two or more bowel movements daily? If less, read the guidelines on supporting regularity.
  • Eating only the foods on the YES list?

The Candida Plan helps to reverse the problematic, pathogenic fungal form of Candida back to its normal yeast form, boost the appropriate immune system response, detoxify the body, and help to restore normal tissue flora. This process varies in each person as to the time required. Give your body the time necessary to accomplish the healing of cells, tissues, organs, and systems.

It’s also possible that you may have other health issues that are having an effect here.

How often should I be having a bowel movement?2017-07-25T08:52:54-07:00

Normal bowel movements should occur 3-4 times per day. If yours are slower, meaning less than 2 times per day, then you are placing additional stress on your body. I recommend Trace Mineral Research ConcenTrace Trace Minerals. It comes in liquid and tablet forms.

In the liquid form, you’ll need to take 40-80 drops, 2-3 times a day. ADJUST up or down depending on results. With tablets, the directions on the bottle state to take 2-6 tablets a day. How much water ought I to drink while on the plan. Do you recommend a particular type?2017-07-25T10:16:39-07:00

Remember to drink one quart of water per every 50 pounds that you weigh each day. If you’re not used to drinking enough water for your body, gradually work your way up to the right amount.

Any good filtered water is allowed on the plan. Reputable bottle water companies are Fiji, Volvic, Arrowhead, Trinity, and others. The number and quality of purified waters has increased in recent years. Reverse osmosis water is a good option for home water filtration systems.

Good water filtration resources are www.ewater.com and www.servamaticsolarparts.com.

The most important note here is to make sure it is filtered and that you are not drinking tap water.

How do I take Trace Minerals to increase bowel movements?2017-09-24T19:48:16-07:00

Trace Minerals work to increase bowel movements by pulling excess water into the colon, which creates a bowel movement. This is a very gentle way to increase bowel movements that does not use fiber, which may irritate the digestive tract.

  • In the liquid form, you’ll need to take 40-80 drops mixed in water (4-8 ounces works well), 2-3 times a day. Take 30 minutes away from food.
  • With tablets, follow the directions on the bottle and take 2-6 tablets a day. Take 30 minutes away from food.
  • With both liquid and tablets ADJUST up or down depending on results.
  • If you take too much Trace Minerals, you may experience loose stool or diarrhea. Remember to ADJUST the dosage gradually to find the level that works best for you.

You can purchase Trace Mineral Liquid Drops  in our online store. It’s also available in major health foods stores such as Whole Foods.

How come pork is the only meat I am not allowed to eat on the plan?2016-04-20T08:40:13-07:00

Every pork cell contains a virus called Porcine Endogenous Retrovirus. Pork also produces other unhealthy effects in the body. Ingesting this while your body is undergoing the cleansing process would undermine the effectiveness of the plan. Remember, all other meats (beef, chicken, fish, turkey, buffalo, ostrich, etc.) are allowed!

Can you remind me which supplements to take when?2016-04-20T08:40:21-07:00

Can I sweat too much?2016-04-20T08:40:38-07:00

A good Rule of Thumb is everything in moderation. It’s a good idea to work your way up to longer sweating sessions, if you’re not used to sitting and sweating in a sauna, hot tub, bath, or steam room. As long as you drink plenty of water and replace any minerals you may have lost during sweating, longer sessions should be fine. Listen to your body’s feedback and use common sense. Although sweating in a hot bath or a dry sauna is the form of sweating most recommended on the plan. It is much more important to sweat any way you can – hot bath, steam room, Jacuzzi, etc. -than to worry about whether or not the water you are sweating in is toxic.

Why is The Candida Plan 16 weeks long?2017-07-21T14:36:01-07:00

Dr. McCombs’ Candida Plan is a 16-week whole body detoxification program that eliminates systemic fungal Candida, cleanses the liver and other organs, purifies the lymphatic system, and re-populates the beneficial bacteria of the intestinal tract. It is necessary to complete all 16 weeks of the plan to receive the maximum benefit possible for you.

Here is an overview of how the plan works in your body from Week 1 through 16:

1. Neutralize
2. Anti-Candida Diet
3. Detoxify
4. Regenerate

1. Neutralize (Weeks 1 – 8)

Candida in its fungal (mycelial) form is difficult if not impossible to starve or eliminate. That’s why The McCombs Plan uses Candida Force, a safe natural anti-fungal, to neutralize the fungal Candida and convert it back to its harmless yeast form. As a yeast cell, Candida is naturally eliminated by the immune system. Candida Force is taken from Week 1 – Week 8 of The McCombs Plan.

2. Anti-Candida Diet (Weeks 1 – 16)
The McCombs Plan Diet is a tried-and-tested eating plan that eliminates factors that have been promoting growth of fungus, bad bacteria and mucous. The “Yes Foods” on The McCombs Plan are:

  • All meats (except pork)
  • Vegetables
  • Fruits (except oranges)
  • Eggs
  • Brown rice (short or long grain)
  • Brown rice cakes (plain)
  • Brown rice cereal (hot)
  • Tea, Coffee

Meal Tips:

a) For cooking or salad dressing we recommend using extra virgin olive oil, cold-pressed coconut, apricot or almond oils (most other oils are toxic to the body.)

b) Seasonings include:Bragg’s Liquid Amino Acids, salt, pepper, lemon, etc. (as long as there are no sugars, yeast, or anything not on the plan.

c) We recommend naturally raised and organic foods.
Click here to see “Why are some foods not allowed on the diet?”

3. Detoxify (Weeks 1 – 16)
There are four important steps to support your body in detoxifying while on The McCombs Plan:

a)  Sweating: A relaxing, daily cleansing process that supports the body’s largest detoxifying organ, the skin, in expelling toxins created by the Candida. Choose between a hot bath, dry sauna, hot tub, or steam room. Sweating is done 6 days per week for 10-15 minutes in a sauna, or 30-45 minutes in the bathtub (it takes most people about 10 minutes to begin sweating.) No other Candida plan utilizes sweating to detoxify. In our experience, the sweating protocol is one of the key reasons that people doing The McCombs Plan report little or no “die-off reaction”.
b) Detox Essentials: This Vitamin C, Echinacea, red clover and lemon bioflavinoids supplement supports your body in detoxifying throughout the 16-week plan. Detox Essentials boosts the immune system and purifies the lymphatic system.
c) Water: By drinking adequate amounts of water (1 Quart of water per 50 lbs. of body weight), you are flushing out toxins and keeping the body well hydrated.

d) Regular Bowel Movements: Normal bowel movements should be 3-4 times per day, or approximately one bowel movement for every meal you eat.

Bowels that are backed up can also slow other detoxification pathways throughout the body. Backed up toxins lead to water retention as the body attempts to buffer the toxins retained in the tissues. This can bloat the body and contribute to further dysfunction. When trying to facilitate detoxification of the body, normal regular bowel movements always help to create a pathway for toxins to leave more easily and efficiently. For those people following the Candida Plan, regular bowel movements can help increase the effectiveness of the Plan, just as they can continue to help maintain a greater state of health overall after the Plan.
4. Regenerate (Weeks 7 – 16)

Vital Flora is a high quality 12-strain probiotic supplement that re-establishes the normal tissue flora in the digestive tract and throughout the entire body. Probiotics support optimal health. Flora Prime is introduced on Week 7, after enough of the Candida has been neutralized and eliminated. Once reintroduced, these good bacteria establish a barrier that keeps the Candida in check. Probiotics taken before Week 7 may create some symptomatic relief, but probiotics taken before Week 7 or on their own cannot eliminate Systemic Candida.

Will Dr. McCombs’ Candida Plan help with vaginal yeast infections?2017-07-25T08:56:37-07:00

The majority of vaginal infections are bacterial, so treating it as a yeast infection may not be effective, unless you’re treating it systemically at the same time. This can help to balance the overall bacterial flora of the entire body. We have had many patients eliminate this problem successfully and others who have found that it helped, but did not get rid of it completely.

One difficulty with this part of the body is that a woman’s immune system response is regulated in such a way that it doesn’t interfere with a woman’s ability to get pregnant. That same regulation can favor the spread of candida and other infections. Therefore, trying to treat only the vaginal tissues won’t work as successfully as treating the whole body.

Also, the vaginal tissue is normally acidic and the normal presence of good bacteria helps to maintain the acidity. When the good bacteria are destroyed by antibiotics, it allows the pH to change and become more alkaline and other bacterial species to become dominant.

Best results can be obtained by treating this tissue systemically and locally. Helpful ideas include inserting 2 acidophilus (Flora Prime) capsules twice a day into the vaginal tissue. Some women have also used boric acid suppositories to help increase the acidity. Boric acid suppositories can be made by adding boric acid powder to empty gel capsules.

Repeated courses of antibiotics can cause a lot of disruption of normal healthy tissue, so it may take a while to bring everything back into balance. It’s not just a vaginal issue, it’s a systemic issue.

Why does the plan cost so much?2017-07-25T08:59:26-07:00

Dr. McCombs’ Candida Plan is the most comprehensive approach to eliminating systemic Candida. We understand that the investment may seem high to some people. Here is some information to help you understand the cost of the four month plan:

  • A Complete Approach To Candida. Many other Candida diets, pills and supplements are just that: a diet that unsuccessfully tries to starve Candida, an antifungal pill that keeps Candida in check but also creates other imbalances in the body, or probiotics that only provide temporary symptomatic relief. Dr. McCombs’ Candida Plan combines four synergistic components: 1) Supplements, 2) Water, 3) Sweating, and 4) Diet that work together to eliminate fungal Candida and restore balance to the digestive system. No other program is as sophisticated as Dr. McCombs’ Plan.

  • High Quality Products. Candida Force, Detox Essentials, and Flora Prime all contain the finest natural ingredients and are manufactured in high quality labs. All of the labs test for purity and potency on a regular basis, and meet Good Manufacturing Practice standards or above (Candida Force also meets the much stricter Australian guidelines for manufacturing). You will need a total of 19 bottles of these high quality supplements to eliminate Candida and restore the good bacteria that provides a protective barrier in the gut.

  • Created By An Expert. Dr. Jeffrey McCombs, DC has dedicated more than 20 years of his 26-year practice to researching how Candida works in the body and the best ways to eliminate it. Athletes, best-selling authors, and celebrities consider him “The Candida Expert” for this reason.

  • Amazing Customer Service. Each of the staff at the McCombs Center For Health has experienced the benefits of Dr. McCombs’ Plan first hand. The support and service we offer is unparalleled. For more information on the support that’s included, see What’s included with The McCombs Plan?

  • Time-Proven Approach. 26 years of testimonials like these, “Your plan saved my life!” “I don’t know how I can ever repay you!” and “The best thing I ever did for myself!” tell us that people who do Dr. McCombs’ Plan are getting what they paid for and so much more than they imagined was possible!
What’s the difference between yeast, mold, and fungus?2016-04-20T08:41:11-07:00

Yeast, mold, and fungus all belong to the broader class of organisms called “Fungus.”

What’s the best time of year to begin the Candida Plan?2016-04-20T08:41:32-07:00

The ongoing effect of toxins and imbalances can have a greater detrimental effect on the body than the seasonal changes. The majority of the people who do the Plan, start it in January. There’s never a good time to do the Plan for one reason or another – holidays, birthdays, anniversaries, vacations, etc. The best time to do the Plan and the best time to get healthy is always, now.

Eating whole foods and detoxifying the body should be something that is done year-round. How much more likely is it that a body will be able to rest and repair, when it is clear of toxins, balanced, and able to get the nutrients it needs to function effectively? That starts from Day 1 on the Candida Plan.

What should I do if I am experiencing allergies?2016-04-20T08:41:33-07:00

This can depend on the type of allergies that you’re experiencing. For possible food allergies, take out any new foods from your diet for 3 days and then add them back one at a time every 3 days to see if they are causing a reaction. If you suspect a certain food, remove that from your diet and see how your body responds.

For airborne allergies, look into purchasing a shower filter and a good air filtration system for your home. This can depend on the type of allergies that you’re experiencing. What percentage of your supplements actually reaches the intestines, unchanged by digestive acids, and is that amount sufficient?2016-04-20T08:41:53-07:00

Yes, the amounts are sufficient. For the last 20 years, in the recommended amounts and dosages, we have found that the supplements have been effective in helping to eliminate systemic Candida, detoxify the body, and restore normal tissue flora.

I suffer from persistent acne. Can the plan help me?2016-04-20T08:42:11-07:00

Yes it can. Skin problems are often indicative of a back-up of toxic materials that are not being eliminated through the body’s systems. This can be accentuated by the toxins produced by Candida and other imbalances created by antibiotics. The fact that your acne is persistent tells me that you have a chronic imbalance within the body. With chronic problems, I find more complex imbalances that generally involve the digestive, immune, hormonal, and neurological systems. Disruption of the normal flora of the intestinal tract and skin, results in a complex series of events that can produce the one symptom that is more easily recognizable to you.

Why does The Candida Plan focus so much on the health of the intestinal tract?2016-04-20T08:42:28-07:00

60-70% of the cells that make up your body are in the intestines—more cells in your digestive tract than there are in the entire rest of your body. And if the intestines are inflamed, so is the rest of your body. Most autoimmune diseases start in the intestines. The more inflammation you have in this area, the more likely it is that you’ll have problems elsewhere in the body. (You may also be amazed to hear that the combined length of your small and large intestines is about 25 ft!).

How can The Candida Plan get rid of toxins that have been in the body for a long time?2016-04-20T08:42:39-07:00

Most toxins remain in the body because they are fat-soluble. These toxins are normally converted to a water-soluble form for elimination from the body. The plan helps the body in its ability to convert fat-soluble toxins to a water-soluble form in order to be eliminated from the body. By detoxifying the body, you also help to decrease the toxin-based stress load on tissues like the liver and gall bladder. This also helps to increase the body’s ability to eliminate and prevent a build-up of toxins within the tissues.

Anti-Candida protocols that use Threelac don’t require any dietary changes. Why?2016-04-20T08:42:54-07:00

Dr. McCombs’ Candida Plan has been designed to revert the problematic fungal form of Candida back to its normal, healthy yeast form, detoxify the body burden, boost the appropriate immune response at the appropriate time, and help to restore normal tissue flora. Each step of Dr. McCombs’ Candida Plan is designed to support and work within the natural guidelines of a healthy ecosystem. It does not attempt to kill off or destroy anything within that system, as doing so can cause more long-term health issues and create antifungal resistance. The food guidelines with the Plan eliminates foods that can be a quick fuel source for fungal Candida or can cause allergic responses that facilitate the spread of Candida in the body.

Some companies like those that market Threelac wish to appeal to people who don’t want to invest in the time and dietary changes necessary to support successful correction of fungal Candida imbalances and establishment of health in the body. While a quick fix is appealing, it isn’t realistic. Our research has found that both feeding Candida and killing it doesn’t get anyone anywhere. It can, however, double the toxic load in the body.

It is also important to be aware of products on the market, like Threelac, that contain Bacillus subtilis. Baccilus subtilis (B subtilis) has the ability to destroy bacteria and fungus alike without any consideration for the overall health of the body. B. subtilis has been found to be highly antibacterial and is the basis for several strong antibiotics (Bacitracin, Subtilin, Neosidin, Colistin, etc). Possible side effects associated with these antibiotics include kidney failure, heart attack, anxiety, anaphylactic reactions, blurred vision, antibiotic and antifungal resistant strains, hives, rash, etc. Destroying other bacterial species in the digestive tract can create the same imbalances that create systemic fungal and bacterial infections. The overall effect of B. subtilis can create many unidentified conditions. Research is now implicating antibiotics in conditions such as life-threatening colitis, diabetes, obesity, and cancer.

The problem with many products and approaches on the market today is that they follow the old outdated medical model in trying to destroy bacteria, fungus, etc., in the body without any knowledge or concern for the natural ecosystem of the digestive tract and the vitally important role of microorganisms in our body. Man is now considered to be a super-organism dependent on the health of the bacteria and other organisms of the digestive tract and tissues. These same microorganisms outnumber human cells in the body by 10 to 1. The goal of any approach should be to re-establish balance and support normal function of microorganisms and human cells alike.

Is “Systemic Candidiasis” a different type of infection?2016-04-20T08:43:11-07:00

This term refers to the body-wide infestation of the fungal Candida cells. The initially healthy, round yeast cells found in the intestines change into fungal cells, most commonly as a result of antibiotic use. These mutated fungus cells then push through the wall of the large and small intestines, entering into the bloodstream. They then travel throughout the body and establish themselves in different tissues.

While antibiotics are the main cause of systemic Candidiasis, birth control pills, steroids, and sugar also help create an environment for the fungus to colonize and spread throughout the body.

Does an increase in water intake lead to water retention?2016-04-20T08:43:11-07:00

Increased water intake is not usually associated with increased water retention. Avoiding a sweating regime, experiencing slow bowel movements, hormonal imbalances and eating the wrong foods may be more likely culprits that lead to water retention.

Where is the scientific research that supports Systemic Candida is real?2016-04-20T08:43:12-07:00

A good place to start is the Candida Facts in our site which contains over 75 research references on Candida albicans. Share with your family, friends, and doctors, if you feel that it can also assist them in learning and understanding more about a problem that affects virtually everyone.

Dr. McCombs created the Candida Library, a free online educational resource where he is compiling all the available scientific information on Candida. Please click here and visitCandidaLibrary.org to learn more.

I’m sensitive to acidic food in my stomach. Will Candida Force work for me?2017-07-25T09:00:52-07:00

The carefully blended Candida Force supplement contains olive oil which prevents it from being too acidic.

I’m pregnant. Is this a good time to be on Dr. McCombs’ Candida Plan?2017-09-14T13:41:46-07:00

I have never had a problem recommending Dr. McCombs’ Candida Plan during pregnancy or breastfeeding, but in the end, we leave it up to the mother. Most studies that I have seen report that saunas and hot baths are safe in pregnant women. Many studies originate out of Finland where sauna bathing is a centuries old tradition. With a population of just over 5 million, Finland has over 1.6 million home saunas, almost one for every home. Germany, another good source of studies, has over 1.5 million saunas in homes. Some good studies haven’t been translated from Finnish or German, but you’ll find several at our online Candida Library. Only in America are people phobic about sweating.

There was a study that showed that elevated temperatures over a 24-hour period could induce neural tube defects. Neural tube defects take place between your 3rd and 4th week of pregnancy. This was most likely due to an infection and a fever in that study. I’m not sure why they related this to sweating and saunas. Several studies show that sustained fevers over the course of a day or more can be potentially problematic, but even then, defects are rare. Effects from these are more likely due to the infectious agent combined with the fevers. Infections can stimulate a specific type of immune response that the body tries to avoid during pregnancies. On Dr. McCombs’ Plan, you need to sweat about 10-15 minutes, 6 days a week. That’s a long way from a 24-hour elevation of temperature, even when adding all 6 days of sweating together. Additionally, most women are past their 4th week of pregnancy when they first find out that they are pregnant.

We have had approximately 49 women get pregnant while doing Dr. McCombs’ Plan, when they weren’t able to get pregnant any other way. Of those, several went on to have additional pregnancies. I know of only one pregnant woman that had a miscarriage while doing the Plan. The national average for miscarriages is 1 in 4 (25%), so our 1 in 49 (2%) is a much better outcome. Some of the women who became pregnant during Dr. McCombs’ Plan chose to stop and do it again after the pregnancy. Others went ahead and completed the plan. It’s really a choice that you’ll make and we support you either way.

I’m on a high-protein, low-carb diet and I’m pretty healthy. Can the plan really offer me anything?2016-04-20T08:43:47-07:00

Yes, it can offer you a lot. Why? Because most people with Candida cannot absorb protein and many other foods.

The plan can boost natural Vitamin B synthesis in your body and thus protein absorption. B Vitamins are synthesized in the intestines. They are responsible for many, many functions in the body and low levels have been associated with many diseases and conditions.
